MONTHLY (?) FAVES

Apparently, I haven't had enough favourites for a weekly post. Let's see if a monthly affair is more manageable.

WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY | 05.25.2016

Wednesday was a good day because my sister came back from NYC and she's staying in Montreal for a month. Yayyyy!

8:00AM — My usual bowl of oatmeal to start the day, with a banana, walnuts, coconut strips, goji berries and chia seeds. With iced coffee and a glass of local apple juice. I perused Ottolenghi's Jerusalem while I ate breakfast, because I'm trying to use more recipes and his books are amazing.

12:00PM — After picking my sister up at the airport, we headed to Little Burgundy for a small reunion with our friends. We went to Spanel, a crêpes restaurant my aunt (who also has celiac disease) recommended. I got a buckwheat crêpe with eggs, cheddar, avocado, spinach and salsa. Although most of the options include meat, the crêpes themselves are vegan. The service was extremely slow, but the food was pretty good and the terrace was nice.

8:30PM — I made the steamed aubergine/eggplant with sesame and spring onion recipe from Plenty (you can find the same recipe online on The Guardian). It was delicious and deceptively easy to make. We had it with grilled tofu, basmati and amazing asparagus from a farm near my mother's friend's chalet.

10:00PM — I like to end the day with something sweet, so I had a bite of homemade "reese's" that my sister made using only coconut oil, cacao powder, maple syrup, salt and natural peanut butter.

WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY | 05.18.2016

On this week's WIAW, I'll show you what I ate while building a deck at my (mama's) house. Because sometimes when a contractor gives you a $14K estimate for a deck, you gotta take matters into your own hands. And guess what, we are killing it! I can't wait to make it my summer "photo studio".

8:30AM — I've been feeling a bit ill lately, so I didn't want to have a big breakfast. I had fruit for breakfast, because that's what all the youtubers do (#801010 life). But I had some peanut butter, too, because f*** HCLF diets.

1:00PM — Took a break from building the deck to make a huge quinoa salad for the "crew" (aka my sister, my mom and her two friends), with roasted tofu, black beans, red cabbage, cucumber, red bell pepper and sprouts + a kale pesto dressing.

2:00PM — Post lunch snack: iced coffee with a gogo quinoa cookie (damn, those quinoa "crispies" are great). Unfortunately, I only had time to have a sip or two of my coffee before it got covered in saw dust. Hard times.

7:00PM — I had to race back into the city to see an improv show. I stopped by my apartment to have some avocado, cucumber, kale, arugula and sprouts on a toasted St-Méthode gf bun.

10:30PM — A day that ends with popcorn is always a good day in my book. I like to make stovetop popcorn and sprinkle it with nutritional yeast, chili flakes and salt.
